Last.fm is an online service that captures the track information of the user’s listening habits (known as scrobbling) from different streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube in order to provide listening stats and provide music discovery recommendations.

I’m been using last.fm since December 2005, from a free to a paid account, so I’m a dedicated user! I remember the days of portable MP3 players and figuring out how I can continue scrobbling when I wasn’t on a computer. *wipes tears* Good times!

When I first started using last.fm, I had an idea of how my stats would turn out since I did these “next month predictions” based on the releases of the artists I was listening to. Then for over a decade, I would just make sure the system was scrobbling my songs, and then I’d surprise myself at the end of the month, or my annually end of year review I used to post blog entries. I find this type of information fascinating!

I want to do something differently this year because, let’s be honest, I’m aware of what I listen to and there’s really no surprise at the end of the year, despite the fact that I still get excited for the actual numbers!

Now that I’ve created this blog, I want my listening to be a bit more meaningful, then I’ll create content based on that meaning. The year ’26 itself is meaning to me as it’s the same number that represents my birthday! So lots of experiments on the way!

If anyone has any suggestions on how to make music more meaningful, please leave a comment below. I’d love to hear your approach!
